Lauretta's Laments

The musings of an author

Welcome to my nightmare website!

► From the time I was a little kid and could properly hold a writing instrument in my grubby little paw (thanks to my schoolteacher Grandma Steenburg, who brought me a pencil specifically engineered for correct finger placement), I wanted to be a writer.

► I love the feel of pen on paper, the connection and glide of words streaming from parts unknown, a conduit inside my head with its source somewhere other than inside myself. It's holy, somehow.

► Books are my passion, and the smell of paper and printer's ink is a healing elixir that calms me like nothing else. I always thought that if I could live to see the day that any words I'd manage to string together could actually make it into print, my life would be complete.

I've always been a reader. I was devouring books even before I went to kindergarten and again my disbelieving Grandma S. put me to the test. After pulling up in front of our house in her hot, early 60s Plymouth Fury, she entered with 1st grade primer in hand, ensconced herself in her favorite armchair and plopped me on her lap. "Read this!" she commanded. So, I did. Satisfied, she accepted the cup of coffee my mother offered and opened up the lid of her gold cigarette case, red fingernails flashing as she tapped  an unfiltered Pall Mall on its lid. Mission accomplished.

► And  so it has continued. I read constantly, (often at stop lights), journal daily and produce actual pieces of shareable writing  sporadically. I've posted some of these here on this website, for your perusal and (hopefully) enjoyment.

► If you have any comments or would like to share any stories or photos of your own, you can do so by clicking on the Home tab, and then on "Submit a story or photo"). Shorty, our esteemed Webmaster, will review each and every submission for appropriateness, and you'll hear from us right away. We do hope you'll join is!

Thanks for stopping by.

Best,

Lauretta
